Entry #45 day 36
I am currently in Key Largo at John Pennekamp State park. It is about 90 degrees inside my tent, it is raining cats and dogs complete with lighteneing, I have to hide inside my tent because the mosquitos are swarming outside, I have already killed about 20 mosquitos that were inside my tent and dinner was an orange and a granola bar because the thought of eating a foil bag of tuna inside a tent that smells like a men’s locker room would possibly end very badly. Oh ya and my tent is starting to leak but other than that I am doing pretty pretty pretty good.
Left Miami this morning, I realized that I love the cute little New England beaches with all their charm, I don’t care for all the big fancy hotels, big fancy houses, big fancy boats, big fancy cars and big fancy women. I miss the New England beaches and everything nice that goes with them.
Even their supermarkets are fancy, check this Publix out.
Here is a safety tip, if you are riding across a drawbridge and the warning bells start going off and the gates are dropping pedal very fast to get off the bridge.
Took the M-trail to get out of Miami, it was nice except for the Audi SUV that almost hit me, he took a right turn on red but forgot the stop first part, I guess he was just trying to beat the coming traffic.
Tons of Iguanas down here, they are like our squirrels back home except not as cute and fuzzy.
Here is safety tip #2 , if you are sitting under a palm tree on a windy day make sure it doesn’t have really big coconuts on it,that could ruin your day if you got hit by one.
This was the Biscayne park trail, I rode this for about 25-30 miles, there’s was no shade at all, I ran out of water in my camelback and only had my reserve water bottle for the last 10 miles. At the end of the trail they have these 2 sets of gates that I had to slide my bike under one gate and drag my bike over theses boulders to get it out. As nice as it was to be alone and not have traffic I was glad when I got out of there and I was very thirsty.
As hot tired and thirsty as I was ,I still got goosebumps when I saw this sign. The doo rag is not my feeble attempt at trying to look cool, I am riding a bicycle with a trailer after all, I am wearing it so that the racing stripes on top of my head don’t get any more tan than they already are, plus it keeps the sweat out of my eyes.
Then I saw my oasis.... Alabama Jacks. I had 3 beers and a chicken sandwich, that was more beers than I normally would have especially with 20 miles to pedal but they tasted so good. I grabbed a couple of waters to put in my Camelback and talked to a nice couple named Sam and Daniella. After talking awhile I found out that Daniellas brother owns a campground near Key West, now I am not much of a name dropper but I will be dropping her name this time, maybe I can get the family discount, just saying.
It was a very good day, lets see how the rest of the night goes.
