Entry #30 day 21
Today started out great, I woke up to a beautiful sunrise, walked on the beach looking for sea glass for my wife but didn’t find any, I did find some shells though, hope you like shells babes. When I got back to the campsite I ate a veggie lasagna MRE, when I had finished that a neighbor in the campground brought me a delicious egg sandwich, I was fueled up and ready to go.
The streets in the area were a little beat up but the Rincon got me through Ok.
Had a close encounter with an alligator.
Rode over 20 miles on highways with no breakdown lane, only a drainage gulley to ride in with cars doing 50 plus MPH flying by, it was no fun but I knew I only had 48 miles to go to the Carolina Beach State park.
Crossed a bridge over the inter coastal waterway, with only 3 miles left to go, I decided to stop into a Food Lion and buy a bunch of food so I could eat like a pig tonight, while I was checking out, the clerk informed me that the state park was closed. I almost put everything back on the shelves with the exception of the banana cream pudding cups and sit on a bench out front and cry while eating the pudding cups. I checked around and found Freeman park which allowed you to camp on the beach and it was only 3 miles away, I thought this could be even better than the state park.
Freeman park was closed , the tides were coming up too high because the rivers were still high, what a bunch of sissies. I stopped to talk to this gentleman, his name is Dave and he offered to let me stay with him and his wife, they were on vacation and had rented a place right on the water. I didn’t want to impose but I did take his phone number so I had a back up plan, even though it meant I might have to sleep with Tom Brady.....That’s his dog’s name.
I stopped in at the Carolina Beach firehouse and they offered me a place to stay, I actually ended up camping out next door in the backyard of a retired Firefighter, his name is Ronnie and he is a very hospitable gentleman. I will try to get a picture of Ronnie tomorrow, the chief allowed me to use the bathrooms and the shower in the firehouse and the crew invited me over for coffee in the morning, I love firehouse coffee.
Here is the view of the campground, that’s wierd nobody wanted to park next to me.
Campground office.
