Entry #27 day 18

I am not sure that this blog will be posted on Friday due to the fact that I am staying at a partially open campground that looks like it got hit pretty hard by Florence, I base this on the uprooted trees, damaged buildings. And the Mud and weeds that is covering the bathroom floor but at least its not crowded. But before I go on complaining about tonight let me finish complaining about last night.

Last night was miserable, it was hot and humid the mosquitos had me pinned down in my tent and the air was dead calm, that is until sunrise when the wind picked up to a 15-20 MPH head wind which I had to struggle against almost all day of roads like this.

I wanted to stop in and get a mullet but I figured I should let my hair grow out first.

I arrived at the ocracoke ferry and was happy to see it open, this was the first day it was open since the storm, now I can get a little bit deeper into this mess.

I landed on ocracoke island and began pedaling 13 miles to get to the Cedar island ferry, I was hoping the clouds would block the sun and make it cooler and possibly diminish the headwinds, 1/2 hour later it down poured, becareful what you wish for.

Stopped in at Howards bar and ordered a sandwich and a beer, the bartender informed me that the next ferry was at 1 pm and it was 12:45 pm, so I did the onl y thing I could do I ordered another beer and waited for the 4PM ferry.

I then spent some time in the town of Ocracoke, it used to be Blackbeard’s hangout, it is a very cool
town. This gentleman is Joseph he gave me a ride around town on his tram and showed me some of the sites.

Stopped in to another bar and had a beer while waiting for the ferry.

I asked this little gecko to watch my bike while I bought my ferry ticket, he said “no problem mate, have you ever thought about switching to Geico?”

I jumped on the 4PM ferry and after a 2 hour ride I disembarked on cedar Island and set up camp at the RV park next to the landing.

I still can not find a fuel cylinder for my stove so I learned a few things about cooking with a candle #1 you have to be patient #2 you have to pay attention or you will snuff out the flame with the pan and #3 it dosen’t work so you end up eating cold oatmeal and washing it down with a tepid cup of brown water that you pretend is coffee.

I decided that a nice shower would help cheer me up, so I put on my flip flops and picked out the cleanest muddy shower stall I could find, this stall had 1 pair of turquoise underwear on the floor, 2 small bars of soap on the floor and 1 used glow stick, it looked like a rave party gone bad. There was no hot water but after the initial shock I was actually enjoying the shower that is until I dropped the soap, reason #2 why you don’t bend over to pick up the soap. So I left the shower stall with 1 more bar of soap on the ground. No picture available due to my limit on men’s room pictures.

I went back to the tent to finish the blog until this lightening storm chased me back to the bathroom for shelter, This picture was taken at 930 PM it was pitch black out at the time. Hope I sleep tonight as the rain is leaking through my tent.
