Entry #20 Day 13
The day started out raining so I had a nice leisurely breakfast with Norman, the gentleman from Germany who was also cycling to Key West. Once the rain stopped we took off together, I followed Norman on Route 1 South but as I expected with the added weight of the trailer and my camping gear I could not keep up on the hills coupled with the fact that Rt 1 is a 4 lane highway with no shoulder and nothing but strip malls to look at I peeled off onto the Virginia central trail which I thought was the Virginia Capital trail, that was a 4 mile mistake. So I jumped back on to some back roads through farm country where the only thing to worry about is falling into a ditch.
The scenery was beautiful and I even found the Stonewall Jackson National Shrine. This was the house he died in after the battle of Chancellorsville. There is also a picture of the bed he died in, the blanket he was covered with when he died and the clock on the mantel that was ticking when he died.
Pretty pretty pretty cool and I didn’t even make that up like the George and Martha story I told.
Some of the houses looked so old you felt like you had traveled back 200 years. I went for at least a half hour before I saw a car on the road, I started to wonder if mailing back my spare tire trailer was a good idea?
There were fields full of plants that you might eat or smoke or feed to an animal or do something with, as you might have noticed this not a very educational Blog. This might be Soy in which case I don’t know what you do with it.
Home for the night right next to Kings Dominion Amusement park.
This has to be the nicest campground bathroom in the world, and I promise from now on no more picture taking in the men’s room.
Built a Redneck cooler for my Yuengling Beer, so glad I didn’t send that poncho home with the other junk, as of the time of this entry the beers have been on ice for 5 hours, Yeti you show me nothing.
Had to take this picture for my paleontologist Grand Daughter Eliza, don’t worry Eliza pepere is OK I was faster than him, I even had time to take a selfie with him. Prior to this trip I hardly ever took a selfie but I have taken an occasional Shell-fie.
