Entry #19 Day 12

Woke up this morning bright an early wanted to make up for yesterday by logging some miles in,
Ran over to the kitchen sink at the restrooms and found these 2 guys just hanging out, I decided to wash my pan at the camp site instead. Campground rules be damned I am not taking a chance.

Mailed home 4 pounds of junk that I hope I don’t need, not sure if mailing back my spare trailer tire was a good idea? I kept all 5 of my books that I packed, they are to me what Wilson was to Tom Hanks in Castaway, they are keeping me sane, I think.

This is a prison complex turned condo, kind of cool.

I wish if google maps wants you to cross through a gated community they give you the combination to the gate, or if they send you through some field they give you the key to the gate so you don’t have to go bush whacking.

Took a small detour through a town called Occoquan, it is a small mill town from around 1700, they have a waterfall, a cool bridge that I had to take a picture of and a wonderful Historical society volunteer named Deloris, she was very nice to talk to and she knew where Nashua was because her husband had an opportunity to work there, it really is a small world.

There is so much development in this region that they even have New Home Direcories so you can find your home.

Saw this sign in Prince Williams Forest, I didn’t pay much attention to it because I was going to use my basic defense against a bear attack and that is drop the Pik-a-nik basket and run for Mister Ranger. The park was beautiful.

I was eating dinner in a Latino resteraunt when I met this gentleman, he is a German History teacher on sabbatical and is currently also riding his bike to Key West. The gentleman’s name is Norman and  he had checked into the same hotel that I was staying at, the front desk manager informed him that he had already checked in a guy doing the same thing. Norman and I had a couple of beers together and exchanged war stories. We probably won’t be riding together because Norman is doing 60 -70 miles per day while I am struggling to do 50 but we did exchange numbers in case we were able to cross paths again. It’s always nice to know you’re not going it alone.
