Entry # 18 Day 11
Slept in a little late this morning but I wasn’t too worried because I was only going 45 miles and mostly on bike trails, sun was shining looked like a good day.
I then spent 6 miles visiting 2 bike shops that were closed, they both open at 11 am and it was only 10am, so I decided to continue on South with the broken pedal ( I just realized that I have been spelling pedal wrong oops) While I was looking for the closed bike shops I did come across this very angry cobblestone street, it was fun to ride on for the first 10 feet.

I just couldn’t get up any speed and it wasn’t till I pulled into Spokes Etc. Bike shop that I noticed I had a flat tire on the trailer. The people at the Bike shop swapped out my pedals, fixed the flat and sent me on my way. Hit the trail again and felt better, but still not great, I think yesterdays long ride with crash was catching up to me. The Mount Vernon Trail was awesome, even went by a Nazi
scientist POW camp, that was kind of cool.
Here is a picture of Mount Vernon.
Actually it is a picture of a photo hanging in Ye Old snack Shoppe, I was kicked out of the entrance to Mount Vernon by security. So I parked my bike against Ye Old Trash Can and had a hot dog and fries in the very same food court where George and Martha used to eat cherry pie together.
I then headed out to Prince William Forest to camp for the night but it was 87 degrees with high humidity, I just couldn’t do it so I decided to camp at Pohick Bay It was only 8 miles away instead of 28 miles. I did pass George Washington distillery and grist Mill, I didn’t stop , I wish I had but I knew how much I love Grist so I thought it would be wiser to keep going.
I set up camp and wrote this Blog entry by the camp store because that’s the only place you can get Wi-Fi, also I had to get firewood and get an ice cream fix. Here is another squirrel I don’t trust I think he’s throwing acorns at me. Not a very good day for me, I hope tomorrow is a little cooler and I can make up for the lack of distance today.
