Entry # 17 day 10
I stayed in a hotel last night just outside of Annapolis, I had planned on camping but the weather forecast said 1 to 3 inches of rain overnight, I guess I am not as tough as I would like to be. I had nothing to fear from the warning on the hair dryer and at breakfast I was a little confused by the brand of coffee .....Wake Up Decaf ? The only way that would work is if you poured a cup of it, threw it in someone’s face and yelled Wake up.
I stopped in at Annapolis just to see what it is like, I had never gone there because I didn’t know where to park. It’s a very cute town with awesome old buildings and a nice waterfront, My wife and I will definitely go and spend some time there but I still don’t know where to park?
I spent some time talking with this nice gentleman, he is a retired architect and his dog’s name is Keeko, he used an expression to state his age which I really liked and will probably use, he said he is currently on his 89th trip around the sun.
On my ride from Annapolis to Washington I encountered some flooding from the previous nights rain, I began thinking about what I would do If I were crossing the water and saw a snake, It was no more than a few minutes later and I saw a dead snake on the road, they can scare you almost as much as a live snake can, also a few minutes later I got startled by a black rubber bungee cord, those things can scare you too when you have snakes on the brain, I decided to do something to clear my head, I
started humming the theme song to Sopranos.
I knew at this point that my ride was about to get very Moist. It downpoured I didn’t even try to get out of it, I felt like a salmon swimming upstream when I was climbing the hills, it only lasted about 20 minutes but the damage was done.
This was a very welcoming sight.
This is the site of my first and hopefully only crash, my front tire fell off the concrete and when I tried to steer back up the wheel skidded out and I fell on the decorative and luckily soft plants. I still hurt my right wrist, shoulder, hip and seriously hurt my pride. I also broke my right peddle which makes me glad I didn’t buy the expensive replacement peddles a few days earlier. I think they refer to this stretch of trail as deadmans straightaway, I am lucky to be alive.
A bridge.
A swift water boat from the Vietnam war at the Navy shipyard, very cool.
Another bridge near Nationals Stadium.
I stopped to see the Jefferson Memorial and ate an Orange on the steps, it was sweet, meaning the orange and the experience.
This squirrel kept staring at me like I was Nuts.
Got My picture at the Lincoln monument, the water stains on my shirt make my belly look bigger than it is, who knows I might be over doing it on the carbo loading.
The mall, a building in Alexandria Virginia, oh yah I made it to another state, 59 miles today.
This was my dinner tonight, Hmmmm maybe it wasn’t the water stains after all.
