Entry # 15 Day 8

Packed up all my camping gear this morning and jumped back on the roller coaster ride called Maryland Route 272. I only had to travel 7 miles on this road and about 3 miles into the trip the road grew shoulders so it made the ride a little more comfortable.

As I was traveling down the road I saw a sign for St Judes parish, the sign said Sunday Mass 9:00 am
I looked down at my phone and saw it was now 9:02 am, I thought perfect I am almost early, so I pulled into the parking lot and went inside. I was covered in sweat so I wanted to sit in one of the back rows but of course those are the seats that fill up first in case you want to sneak out early, So I sat a few more rows in and hoped that no one would notice. I think they did but they were polite and still shook my hand.

Later in the morning I met this guy named Chris, we talked for a few minutes and I thought maybe we could ride together for a while but then I had an image of a bulldog trying to chase a greyhound and thought maybe not.

I found some cool sun bleached bones on the road probably an elk, I wanted to take one as a souvenir but thought if I added a bone to my feather I had found in NJ Nobody would let me check in to a hotel or campground.

I don’t know what these are but you don’t want to hit them with your front tire, It’s like fruit off a tennis ball tree.

This is the button you press before you cross the Hatem Bridge It alerts drivers that there is a cyclist on the bridge if you feel like avoiding them, this picture was an action shot you can see my finger reaching for the button.

I saw this medical dispensary and wanted to stop in to see if they had any Ginko Biloba But I couldn’t remember what it does. I think they specialized in more exotic herbs anyways.

Not a very comforting sign when you are peddling on a state highway.

Finished the day with a little Mac and cheese, apparently I must have used the wrong fill up to here with water line, it actualy made a pretty good Cheesy elbow soup.

  1. So nice to have met you yesterday Rick! Also, glad you were able to make it over the Hatem Bridge safely. God bless and be safe out there and I look forward to keeping up with your adventures to Key West on this blog. I also posted your story and photo on Strava, so you may wind up with a few other followers from that too!

    1. Thanks Chris I enjoyed talking to you too, That Hatem Bridge was a little scary when you look in the rear view mirror and see cars coming behind you at 60 MPH then change lanes at the last minute, then the cars that were following the first car get progressively closer, I am happy I don’t have to make that commute too often. Have fun out there and maybe our paths will cross again.
