9th entry Day #2

Day 2 of the trip started in Fairfield CT. It was only slightly raining and I was starting later than I wanted to but I wasn’t worried because I had already covered 15 miles the day before. After getting the bike loaded I kissed and hugged my wife and dogs, then slowly left my world of comfort behind. Leaving my wife Marti behind is the hardest part of this trip.

The ride started out ok, I felt strong, I was covering a lot of ground and then my Cell phone died....So I figured no problem I have a hotel reservation in New Rochelle NY I will just follow Route 1 into the city and find the hotel when I get there. 2 hours later I find myself on top of a big hill about 4 miles off course in the pouring rain with no route 1 in sight. I asked for directions back to route 1 and just as I turned back on to the road I found a verizon store so I stopped in to buy a new phone.

After the verizon salesman had spent an hour plus trying to transfer data to my new phone with no success I asked him to just load Google maps on the phone so I could leave. I was 2 hours away from the hotel,  it was 4:30 it was getting dark, it was raining I had sunglasses on it was time to hit it. You should have seen the size of the puddle I left on the sales room floor and I was still soaked. When I arrived at the hotel the staff was so friendly even though I left a huge puddle in the lobby at the front desk. They let me store my bike in the maintenance room and after a hot shower and a burger I felt human again.
