12th entry Day #5
I woke up this morning in Plainfield NJ after it had rained all night, I ran into numerous road closures due to flooding, this added an additional 5 miles to my estimated 45 mile day, 5 miles doesn’t seem like much but on a bike it is a bummer.
The D&R canal trail was very cool, During the 10 plus miles on the trail I think I saw about 5 people.
The dirt on the trail covered the bike, the trailer and myself with a layer of mud.
I stopped for a sub near Princeton University, with all the mud on me and my bike, plus the way I devoured that sub in about 5 bites I am sure I was a strange site so close to campus. I washed the sub down with a grape soda and Cheetos, unfortunately the Cheetos turned my fingers orange it just added to the spectacle. That was a delicious meal.
The bearings in my left peddle let go on the D&R trail so I had to stop in a bike to replace them, then after getting through Trenton NJ my rear shifter cable broke so I had to finish the ride stuck in high gear, not a good way to finish.
I stayed in a hotel in Bordentown NJ and found a lobbey full of Canadiens who worked for Hydro Quebec, they had their trucks staged in the back parking lot to assist recovery from hurricane Florence.
